Liposuction of the neck can achieve a defined, elegant neckline by permanently removing unwanted excess fat.

Because liposuction removes excess fat, but cannot significantly improve sagging skin, the typical neck liposuction patient will be younger, in his or her 20's through early 50's. This is because younger patients typically have good skin elasticity, which is necessary for the skin to contract smoothly and evenly after liposuction.

Procedure

For most patients, neck liposuction is a fairly quick procedure, and many times it can be performed using local anesthesia. Through 1 or 2 tiny incisions, concealed beneath the chin or behind the ears, Dr. Marcus will insert a small liposuction cannula, removing excess fat in the chin and neck.

During the procedure, Dr. Marcus doesn't simply use liposuction to eliminate fat-he uses it to precisely sculpt the neck into a new, elegant shape. This approach is only possible through rigorous training and experience, along with a sharp artistic eye. Dr. Marcus understands the behavior of each type of neck tissue, and this allows him to mold them until they are in the exact desired shape.

Liposuction can get rid of accumulated fat in the neck in those with good skin elasticity and tone, but it does not improve the underlying structures. Recovery and Healing

Following a neck lift, patients typically wear a special supportive chin strap for about 3 or 4 days. They generally return to work within 1 week, and are ready to return to full physical activity after about 2 weeks.

It is typical to experience some swelling and bruising after neck liposuction, and you may look like you did before the operation. If this occurs, don't worry-the swelling will gradually disappear and should resolve during the first 10 to 14 days after surgery. In relatively short order, you will have the beautifully defined, elegant neck, you desired.
